Altitude Christmas 2016 – The Venues!

IMG_4231

As this is year one of Altitude Comedy Festival’s transformation into Altitude Christmas, we are introducing some new venues alongside many of the old, and mixing up the way that our daily programme will look, in order to fit in all the festive bits as well as the comedy. You can see the full 2016 week programme here

Details of all of the castles of comedy, lounges of laughter and caverns of cackling will also be listed in your Altitude Christmas brochure, along with a map of the resort to help you find your way.

europahaus

EUROPAHAUS

The Europahaus is the super modern, future-age venue which we’ll be taking over and turning in to Altitude HQ for the week and is where you will check in with the Altitude team to receive your accreditation. The building houses Mayrhofen’s tourist information centre, an incredible Thai restaurant and most importantly will be playing host to the comedy shows in the downstairs venue on Monday and Tuesday night.

STRASS SPORTS BAR

You’ll find this little gem located conveniently at the base of the Penkenbahn ski lift, as part of the Strass Hotel. This year, as always we will start the week off with the International Impro Allstars (also performing on Wednesday & Thursday). Tuesday in the Sports bar sees the return of an Altitude favourites Abandoman and their special one hour show, making it your go to destination for the funniest Après-Ski known to man and yeti!

arena-nightclub

ARENA NIGHTCLUB

Another creation from our friends at the Strass, you’ll find The Arena nestled below it, making it the perfect home for our subterranean world of proper club comedy. Expect off the cuff happenings, surprise appearances and to consume more Jager-bombs than you’ve ever had in your life. Also prepare for the party of a lifetime hosted by The Cuban Brothers and Oh My God! It’s The Church on Friday night.

pilzbar

PILZBAR

The Pilzbar at the top of the Penkenbahn gondola has an umbrella bar and terrace, live DJs, breathtaking views and amazing food. This is where apres-ski starts, slopeside and way before the runs have closed, with Europop throbbing out the doors. The Pilzbar will play host to the incredible Eddie the Eagle regaling us with his tale of ‘The Eagle that Dared’ on Tuesday afternoon.

die-reme-1

DIE REME

Traditional Austrian treasure Die Reme is POSSIBLY the oldest ‘kabaret’ venue in the whole of the Tirol, having been built in the 18th century. We‘re thrilled to introduce this converted cow and goat barn as the newest venue to hit Altitude. We will be heading over there together on Thursday evening for a very special evening gala comedy show, with an optional buffet available to purchase while we watch.

hintertux

HINTERTUX 3250M

We are thrilled to reveal that the Hintertux Glacier is being added to our list of venues for Altitude Christmas! On Wednesday we will depart for the glacier on coaches, to head up  for a morning of skiing with none other than Eddie the Eagle himself! *Eeeek!* Then later that day we will descend to the highest possible Altitude – 3250m to be exact – for the World’s Highest Silent Disco! We are already dizzy with excitement!
