We’re sorry to say that Altitude will be taking a fallow year in 2027.

We’ve spent the last few months trying very hard to find a way around having to make this announcement, and we are genuinely sorry to everyone who had already been looking forward to joining us in Mayrhofen next year.

This isn’t down to one big problem, but rather an annoyingly perfect storm of circumstances.

Changes to the dates available to us in Mayrhofen meant the week we had expected to hold Altitude was no longer possible. The alternative dates created a much bigger knock-on effect than we had hoped, particularly when it came to artist availability.

The new week clashes with a huge number of UK comedy tours and the Australian comedy festival season, meaning many of the comedians we would normally approach are either already committed or overseas. On top of that, flights and accommodation were considerably more expensive for the alternative dates, and moving outside the school holidays created further problems for the many artists, crew and families who normally come with us.

Eventually we had to ask ourselves a fairly simple question:

Do we put on an Altitude in 2027 simply because we’ve always put on an Altitude?

We don’t think that’s a good enough reason.

Altitude is still a genuinely independent, family-run festival, organised by a tiny team who spend their working lives putting on events — but who put on this particular ridiculous event because we absolutely love it.

We love Mayrhofen.
We love the comedians.
We love skiing all day and laughing all night.

But most importantly, we love the brilliant little community of people who travel to the mountains year after year and have turned Altitude into something far more special than just another comedy festival.

And because of that:

We would rather miss a year than give you a watered-down Altitude.

So, with a very heavy heart, the full five-day Altitude Comedy Festival in the mountains will not take place in 2027.

We are really sorry.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t see us doing something in 2027. We’re already discussing a few ideas that might give the Altitude family an excuse to get together somewhere along the way.

But the good news is:

ALTITUDE WILL BE BACK.

We’re already starting work towards 2028, giving ourselves the time to secure the right dates, the right line-up, keep the costs sensible and bring Altitude back at its absolute best.

We were supposed to be celebrating 20 years.

Maybe 21 is more appropriate.

Altitude finally coming of age.
